Ninh Binh is a small city in the Red River Delta of northern Vietnam and is the capital of Ninh Bình Province. It is a good base for exploring quintessentially Vietnamese limestone scenery. Few Western tourists head here, but many Vietnamese flock to nearby sights, including the nation’s biggest pagoda and the Unesco World Heritage–listed Trang An grottoes.
There are many things to do in Ninh Binh. Some of the popular activities include taking a boat ride through the Trang An Scenic Landscape, cycling through the countryside, visiting ancient temples and pagodas such as the Bich Dong Pagoda and Bai Dinh Pagoda, trekking through Cúc Phương National Park, and bird watching at Van Long nature reserve.
